Day Trip: Audra State Park

My favorite swim spot that’s not as close to home (Elkins) has always been Audra State Park. While there’s an easy to access swim area close to the campground and parking area, if you hike back the trail, you’ll discover exactly what I mean.

Summer days have never been more dreamy. Belington Bakery bagel in hand.

How to prep

I love wearing my Chaco’s for hiking and swimming. If you’re hiking back the trail, be prepared for roots and some tricky spots. Take your time and enjoy the cave and boardwalk, its beautiful and so unique! Our dogs love the river and hiking, but sometimes, when the water levels are on the higher side, we choose to leave them at home.

If we’re meeting up with a group, cell phone service is very spotty and nonexistent in some areas, although you can connect to satellite with an iPhone in some places. In my experience, it’s best to make solid plans before arriving!

Packing List

  • Towel

  • Bug Spray

  • Floatie

  • Sunscreen

  • Cooler with drinks and snacks (pastries work too)

Getting there

From Elkins: Jump on Rt. 33 W and head towards Belington/Buckhannon. If you’re going to stop at the Belington Bakery after 3 miles turn right off the highway onto US-250 N. You’ll follow this road just over 5 miles and enter Belington. Belington Bakery will be on your left, located inside the historic Golden Rule building in the downtown.

Once you’ve loaded up on bagel sandwiches and pastries, you’ll turn left out of the parking lot and then make a left at the traffic light onto Bridge Street. You’ll follow this road just over 8 miles all the way to Audra State Park.
